Our August Fundraising campaign has begun…..
The Palomar Mountain Fire Safe Council (PMFSC) is dedicated to reducing wildfire risk and promoting fire safety for the Palomar Mountain community. Donations fund defensible space by helping provide free chipping days, monthly dumpster service and fire prevention and fire safety workshops.

Did you know that all the time and money you spend increasing your wildfire safety by home hardening and improving and maintaining your defensible space helps us apply for grant funding to increase wildfire safety on Palomar? Your time is an “in-kind” donation worth $40 in California!
This includes the time you spend raking leaves, trimming vegetation, removing trees, brush & debris, cleaning gutters, etc . These “In- kind” donations are very important because they demonstrate community commitment to reducing wildfire risk and increase the amount of funding we can request.
Help us by 1) downloading the “in kind” donation pdf below to document your wildfire safety activities and 2) sending your documentation to the PMFSC by mail or by using our contact link: info@palomarfiresafecouncil.org
The PMFSC is leading an initiative to enable the Palomar Mountain community to become a FIREWISE USA® community. The goal is to improve Palomar Mountain wildfire safety, insurability, and reduce cost. FIREWISE® is a national program encouraging community collaboration to improve defensible space and increase home hardening in high wildfire risk areas such as ours. Community members work together to assess risks, develop action plans and implement solutions. Direct benefits include better wildfire protection for our homes and lower insurance premiums. For example members of the FIREWISE community receive a 10% reduction in CA FAIR insurance cost. In addition, CA “Safer from Wildfires” regulations require independent insurance companies to take into account the lower risk of property losses in FIREWISE® communities. The key to being a member of FIREWISE® is community engagement leading to an improvement over time in the community-wide wildfire risk. The first step required to apply to join FIREWISE® is determining the baseline status of home hardening and defensible space conditions in our own community. The PMFSC is therefore distributing the “FIREWISE COMMUNITY WILDFIRE RISK ASSESSMENT SURVEY” to Palomar homeowners. Follow link below to see the survey questions. You may complete and submit the form from this site.
Our collected survey information will be anonymously complied to determine our Palomar community’s baseline wildfire risk. It doesn't matter where we start from as a community. Improvement is the critical factor. A multiyear action plan will be developed based on the baseline survey to guide educational, fuel reduction, home hardening, and fundraising activities necessary to reduce community wildfire risk. We will then be able to apply for FIREWISE® recognition.
