Palomar Mountain is a State Responsibility Area, designated as “extremely high risk” for destructive wildfire.
- We identify areas of the mountain where lives, structures, and/or resources are at significant wildfire risk.
- We write and manage grants to fund work necessary to increase defensible space and reduce high vegetative fuel load in those areas.
- We prioritize, oversee, and manage fuel reduction and fire safety projects.
- We educate the mountain community about fire safe practices and opportunities.
We work closely with State and County organizations including the San Diego Resource Conservation District, Fire Safe Council San Diego County, CAL FIRE, CERT, San Diego Regional Fire Foundation, US Forest Service, California State Parks, and other San Diego County Fire Safe Councils to promote fire-safe practices and reduce the risk of wildfire.
