Palomar Mountain is a San Diego County fault block mountain that rises to over 6,000 feet above sea level and about 4,500 feet above the valley floor. Because of its elevation, Palomar Mountain has a unique ecology that qualifies as a Sky Island.
Palomar Mountain, a State Responsibility Area, is designated by CAL FIRE as being at the very highest risk for destructive wildfire!
PMFSC is a local, volunteer, non-profit 501c3 organization serving our community through programs and services dedicated to reducing wildfire risk and promoting fire safety.
Palomar Mountain is a State Responsibility Area, designated as “extremely high risk” for destructive wildfire.
We work closely with State and County organizations including the San Diego Resource Conservation District, Fire Safe Council San Diego County, CAL FIRE, CERT, San Diego Regional Fire Foundation, US Forest Service, California State Parks, and other San Diego County Fire Safe Councils to promote fire-safe practices and reduce the risk of wildfire.
